3 Earthquakes In 70 Minutes!

Author: Ernie Fitzpatrick

Having two major earthquakes two weeks ago within 24 hours (from Samoa to Indonesia) is bad enough; however, to have THREE in just over an hour is not a good sign. And to make matters worse, the three earthquakes registered 7.8, 7.7, and 7.1 on the richter scale. These are powerful earthquakes. The good news is that there were no tsunamis.

The two major quakes that followed the first one were aftershocks, Sardina said. When there's a big quake, the pattern they follow is after the first quake, a second and then a third," he said. "Those are obviously related," he said. At the Hotel Le Paris in Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia, the manager said she felt the shake but had not seen any damage. On Espiritu Santo Island in Vanuatu, dive-shop owner Rehan Syed said he was aware of no reports of damages or injuries.

What's going on?

Meanwhile back here in the US of A, we're experiencing earthquakes of a different breed: three of them. Can you say deficit spending, coming inflation, and a tanking US$?

The depreciation of the US dollar is sparking growing jitters among critics of the Obama administration over the potential loss of America’s reserve currency status. Economists point out that a declining dollar could prove a boon to the US economy in the absence of credible anxiety over inflation.

The federal budget deficit tripled to a record $1.4 trillion for the 2009 fiscal year that ended last week, congressional analysts said Wednesday. The Congressional Budget Office estimate, while expected, is bad news for the White House and its allies in Congress as they press ahead with health care overhaul legislation that could cost $900 billion over the next decade.

And the latest heath care costs are in.

Health care legislation drafted by a key Senate committee would expand coverage to 94% of the eligible population at a 10-year cost of $829 billion, congressional budget experts said Wednesday in a preliminary estimate. The Congressional Budget Office added that the measure would reduce federal deficits by $81 billion over a decade and probably lead to "continued reductions in federal budget deficits" in the years beyond.

So, at what point do we get real and say, enough is enough? Or do we keep on wildly spending until we're shakin out of our wits, which at this rate, shouldn't take too much longer!
